Update on Progress...well first I must say the Winnipeg Jets (NHL team) did not make the playoffs. Good and bad. One thing is that I will have more time for writing now!
Submitted a short story to a contest in Winnipeg. Apprehensive. Little gurgles of flight in my guts when I think of it. Reasoned expectation is all good and stuff, but I want to win! Validation is important as a writer. My trip to speak with the the author Joan Thomas, who is just finishing up her term as Writer-in-Residence for the Winnipeg library, looked over the first chapter of my book! AND...AND...and she told me exactly what I thought I needed to improve, and positive praises for everything else. My first professional critique, and it was awesome! She told me my dialogue flowed very naturally I had a good grasp on the world and plot, but I lacked enough description, especially with my characters. So I have been on a quest as of late to improve that.
The one thing I have been putting off is working on my Synopsis for my book. Once that is done, I can send it off to a SF Development Editor who looks at first chapters and your synopsis to judge its feasibility. I must, I must, I must increase my....wait, no, wrong song. I must work on my synopsis!
Okay. That is what I am going to do now. Really. Here I go...(assume it is hours, maybe days later before I am brave enough to tackle the last piece, and then have to admit it is ready to send off for more professional critique).
